“ICT in Basic Education” ADB loan #2191-UZB(SF)

 

The Project is aimed at improving the quality and relevance of and access to basic education by integrating information and communications technology (ICT) in teaching and learning in Uzbekistan.

 

The Project will have four components: (i) establish operational school clusters as a network that covers all schools in Uzbekistan, and equip 860 cluster leader schools (CLSs) with ICT facilities and internet/intranet connectivity (the CLSs will provide essential pedagogical and technical support for effective ICT use in other schools in the clusters, including those in poor, rural, and remote areas); (ii) train staff for effective ICT use in schools, and improve the existing in-service teacher training system to make it more flexible and effective for training for ICT use across the curriculum; (iii) develop learning materials for ICT use; and (iv) provide advisory services on technical, financial, and fiscal issues to the Government to strengthen sustainability of the Government’s ICT in basic education policy, and pilot test approaches designed to enhance project sustainability and future ICT development.

The impact of the Project is the improved quality and relevance of, and equitable access to basic education for all students, including students in poor and remote areas.

 

The outcome of the Project is the improvement of learning outcomes through ICT use in priority subject areas in grades 5–9 in project schools with a pro-poor focus. The priority subject areas are mathematics, sciences, history, and languages, in addition to informatics.

Output 1. School cluster network established, equipped, and functional;
