“Construction and equipping of secondary schools of the Republic of Uzbekistan” Project (UZB-020)
On May 31, 2006 the Decree # 104 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan was accepted «About the measures of realization of the “Construction and equipping of secondary schools of the Republic of Uzbekistan” with the participation of the Islamic development bank, and the Loan Agreement was signed between Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic development bank for participation in financing for the construction and equipping of secondary schools project.
According to the order of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan about Expansion of the Cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and within the frames of the realization of the Government Program about School Education Development jointly with the above mentioned Bank the “Construction and Equipping of Secondary Schools of the Republic of Uzbekistan” Project was established.
This Decree will construct 15 secondary schools in rural regions of the Republic with the total of 5355 student teaching capacity included in “National School Education Development Program during years 2004-2009”.
According to the Decree, the Executive agency is the Ministry of public education as principle utilizator of credit funds and as agency for effective implementation of the project.
The project aims to contribute to the developmental efforts of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to increase access and level of secondary education through construction of new secondary schools in various regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, predominantly in rural areas. Development plan provides reformation of education sphere, as a necessary prerequisite for sustainable economic development and integration of the country in the global community. The project plans to achieve the objective of improved quality of an access to education by construction of modern schools in rural areas and equipping them with necessary facilities, equipment and furniture.
The realization of the project will provide schools with the modern educational institutions, furniture, technology and necessary training and laboratory supplies complying with the world standards which can promote to receive qualifying education. The procurement of the project components is carried out according to the IDB’s procurement procedures and implemented by the PIU which is established within the Ministry of public education.
